The wonderful world of natural oils. Advantages in animal applications…

High-quality oils are used in the development of high quality natural care products for humans and animals.

In this article we will focus on the use of oils in natural horse care products.

We visited a company in Saarbrücken (Germany) that has been experimenting for a long time with various oils and natural plant extracts

We wanted to know exactly what the power is of the various natural oils that they process and how the various raw materials relate to each other.

Under the name HorsecarePRO, the company commercializes a number of products for the European market.

In concrete terms, this concerns various conditioners, hoof care products (hoof oils) and specific horse care products (skin & coat care) and even skin repair. These products have one thing in common, they all contain a large amount of natural oils. They are always "blends", so combinations of different oils that together generate a stronger effect.

In this article we briefly discuss some oils that are frequently used in the HorsecarePRO range. The most important oils in a nutshell:

Ylang ylang oil

Jojoba oil is extracted from the seeds of the Jojoba shrub, also known as Simmondsia California. The Jojoba shrub mainly grows in dry desert areas in North and Central America such as Arizona, California and parts of Mexico

Jojoba oil is a natural antioxidant and contains a lot of vitamin E and important fatty acids. Jojoba oil regulates the moisture balance of the skin cells, making it moisturizing. Sensitive and dry skin in particular can benefit from this valuable property. Jojoba oil is also special in terms of texture. The oil does not feel greasy and is odorless.

Furthermore, Jojoba has a strong relaxing, deconvulsive, vasodilator, blood pressure lowering, pain relieving, restorative, anti-inflammatory, slightly fungicidal, uplifting, soothing and  can work as an antidepressant.

Hemp oil

Hemp oil is pressed from hemp seed. As a result, this oil also has no CBD. However, this seed is very healthy. It contains many important nutrients, such as fiber, protein and essential fatty acids. Hemp seed is also rich in vitamins and minerals.

Hemp oil penetrates the skin better than some essential oils, meaning it can effectively address a problem rather than just layering it on the skin. Hemp oil sinks into the skin, allowing it to penetrate the skin cells and soften the hair without making it greasy or oily.

Hemp oil for skin care can promote cell renewal. Therefore extremely suitable for horse skin care! The main source of hemp oil's skin benefits comes from its high content of three polyunsaturated fatty acids: linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid and gamma-linolenic acid, with a high ratio of omega-6.

Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus oil comes from the Eucalyptus tree and has a fresh, pungent, camphor-like scent. Most trees are in Australia, but they are also common in Spain and Portugal.

The oil is widely used for its beneficial effect on the respiratory tract. In addition, the oil has antibacterial properties (use for insect bites) and is also used as a natural pain reliever (for rheumatic diseases).

Eucalyptus oil is further praised for its antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties and accelerates infected wound healing, has a beneficial effect on the immune system and stimulates hair growth

Laurel oil

Laurel oil is extracted from the fruits of the bay tree, Larus Nobilis. Especially as a home remedy, the bay leaf oil has long been in use. It was widely used as a means of rubbing into the skin. Ulcers and growths were treated with it to soften them. And the oil was also particularly suitable for joint complaints.

Laurel oil is still used in veterinary medicine. Sprains in horses are treated by rubbing them with laurel oil or by applying an ointment with this oil. Hoof diseases in horses were also treated with it. Ideal for processing in hoof care products!

Laurel oil helps against ulcers and growths, cold complaints, sports injuries, joint pains, rheumatism and gout.
